Jacob Bekenstein, one of the world’s foremost theoretical physicists, who used the power of thought to explore the invisible objects that are ranked among the wonders of the universe — black holes — died Aug. 16 in Helsinki. He was 68. The New York Times reported that the cause of death was a heart attack, citing confirmation by the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
